Why Cleaning Your CPAP Machine is Important
Keeping your CPAP device clean is very important to not only its longevity but also your health. Ensure that you are routinely cleaning your CPAP machine properly and thoroughly. There are many different working parts of a CPAP device, most of which require special care. Keep reading to learn more about the important steps to take when cleaning your CPAP.

What to Clean
Every morning, you should empty your CPAP device, only to refill it once again at nighttime with distilled water when you are ready to use it. Replacing the water in this way is not only a great way to get you into a routine, but it also gives the machine a chance to breathe and air out without being filled with water. Additionally, you should also take a damp cloth to clean the mask’s cushion or pillow every day. This will help eliminate the build-up and growth of bacteria caused by your face and will keep your skin from breaking out with acne or a rash.
Every week, take your CPAP machine apart to clean it. Using warm water and mild soap, gently but thoroughly clean the humidifier chamber, the mask pillow/cushion, the mask, and the tubing. Rinse with warm water and let the parts air dry.
What to Replace
Every month, your CPAP machine’s filter will need to be replaced. If your device uses a disposable filter, simply replace it. If your device uses a reusable filter, replace it according to the manufacturer. Otherwise, all other parts of the CPAP machine will be best off replaced every six months or so. Additionally, it is recommended that your PAP device is replaced according to its everyday function and if needed after each annual system check.
